A South Dakota mom went to the hospital for pain she thought was caused by kidney stones, only to discover that she was actually in labor…with triplets.
“I started getting pains, I figured it was kidney stones because I’ve went through them before,” Dannette Giltz told ABC affiliate KOTA TV. Once doctors figured out she was in labor, they told her to expect twins. But it turns out that there was one more baby in there.
“It was quiet, we thought they were done,” Giltz said, before noticing a nurse said she needed another blanket. “I was told I have twins, I’m not doing triplets. She’s like no, there’s three babies in here, there’s triplets.”
Naturally this came as even more of a shock to Giltzand her husband. “You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing. So, everyone’s like I can’t believe it, I’m like we’re still in shock, trust me, we know what you mean like I go to the doctor’s thinking I’ll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labor with a C-section that night. It’s crazy,” she said.
In the understatement of the century, Giltz’s husband Austin said he was “overwhelmed” by the whole thing. “Once we left the hospital, she’s out of the hospital, I know she’s okay. I’m overwhelmed honestly, it’s still exploding in my head,” he said.
The couple’s triplets, who are healthy, were named Blaze, Gypsy, and Nikki. Their big brother Ronnie seemed to be thrilled by the whole thing, and said he actually wished for it. “One time I seen a shooting star and I wished for a baby brother, and I wished for like two sisters for my little sister because she always wanted a little sister,” Ronnie said. “I knew this day was always going to come.”
So…maybe keep Ronnie away from shooting stars from now on.
